Narrated 'Abdullah bin As-Sa'ib: The Prophet ﷺ recited Surat Al-Mu’minun in the Fajr prayer and when he reached the story of Musa (Moses) and Harun (Aaron) or 'Isa (Jesus), he got a cough and bowed. 'Umar recited 120 Verses from Surat Al-Baqarah in the first Rak'a and in the second Rak'a, he recited a Surah from the Mathani (Surah of less than 100 Verses). Ahnaf recited in the first Rak'a Surat Al-Kahf and in the second Rak'a Surat Yusuf (Joseph) or Surat Yunus (Jonah) and said that he had offered the Fajr prayer with 'Umar reciting the same Surah. Ibn Mas'ud recited 40 Verses from Surat Al-Anfal (in the first Rak'a) and in the second Rak'a, a Surah from the Mufassal Surah [the Surah starting from Qaf to the end of the Qur’an]. Qatada said about a person who recited one Surah divided between two Rak'as or repeated the same Surah in both Rak'as that he can do so as all those Verses are from Allah’s Book.
