Chapter 103

The riding over the Budn

باب رُكُوبِ الْبُدْنِ

Allah’s Statement refers to this: “And the Budn (cows, oxen, or camels driven for to be offered as sacrifices by the pilgrims at the sanctuary of Makkah), We have made for you as among the Symbols of Allah, wherein you have much good. So mention the Name of Allah over them when they are drawn up in lines (for sacrifice). Then, when they are down on their sides (after slaughter) ... up to... And give glad tidings (O Muhammad ﷺ) to Muhsinun (doers of good).” (V.22:36-37)
لِقَوْلِهِ: {وَالْبُدْنَ جَعَلْنَاهَا لَكُمْ مِنْ شَعَائِرِ اللَّهِ لَكُمْ فِيهَا خَيْرٌ فَاذْكُرُوا اسْمَ اللَّهِ عَلَيْهَا صَوَافَّ فَإِذَا وَجَبَتْ جُنُوبُهَا فَكُلُوا مِنْهَا وَأَطْعِمُوا الْقَانِعَ وَالْمُعْتَرَّ كَذَلِكَ سَخَّرْنَاهَا لَكُمْ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَشْكُرُونَ لَنْ يَنَالَ اللَّهَ لُحُومُهَا وَلاَ دِمَاؤُهَا وَلَكِنْ يَنَالُهُ التَّقْوَى مِنْكُمْ كَذَلِكَ سَخَّرَهَا لَكُمْ لِتُكَبِّرُوا اللَّهَ عَلَى مَا هَدَاكُمْ وَبَشِّرِ الْمُحْسِنِينَ}. قَالَ مُجَاهِدٌ سُمِّيَتِ الْبُدْنَ لِبُدْنِهَا. وَالْقَانِعُ السَّائِلُ، وَالْمُعْتَرُّ الَّذِي يَعْتَرُّ بِالْبُدْنِ مِنْ غَنِيٍّ أَوْ فَقِيرٍ، وَشَعَائِرُ اسْتِعْظَامُ الْبُدْنِ وَاسْتِحْسَانُهَا، وَالْعَتِيقُ عِتْقُهُ مِنَ الْجَبَابِرَةِ، وَيُقَالُ وَجَبَتْ سَقَطَتْ إِلَى الأَرْضِ وَمِنْهُ وَجَبَتِ الشَّمْسُ.

حَدَّثَنَا مُسْلِمُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامٌ، وَشُعْبَةُ، قَالاَ حَدَّثَنَا قَتَادَةُ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ ـ رضى الله عنه ـ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صلى الله عليه وسلم رَأَى رَجُلاً يَسُوقُ بَدَنَةً، فَقَالَ ‏"‏ ارْكَبْهَا ‏"‏‏.‏ قَالَ إِنَّهَا بَدَنَةٌ‏.‏ قَالَ ‏"‏ ارْكَبْهَا ‏"‏‏.‏ قَالَ إِنَّهَا بَدَنَةٌ‏.‏ قَالَ ‏"‏ ارْكَبْهَا ‏"‏‏.‏ ثَلاَثًا‏.‏
Anas:

The Prophet (ﷺ) saw a man driving a Badana. He said, "Ride on it." The man replied, "It is a Badana." The Prophet (ﷺ) said (again), "Ride on it." He (the man) said, "It is a Badana." The Prophet (ﷺ) said thrice, "Ride on it."
