Chapter 30

Repeating ones talk thrice in order to make others understand

باب مَنْ أَعَادَ الْحَدِيثَ ثَلاَثًا لِيُفْهَمَ عَنْهُ

The Prophet ﷺ said: “Beware from giving a false statement,” and he kept on repeating it. Ibn ‘Umar said that the Prophet ﷺ said thrice, “Haven’t I conveyed Allah’s Message (to you?)”
فَقَالَ: «أَلاَ وَقَوْلُ الزُّورِ». فَمَا زَالَ يُكَرِّرُهَا. وَقَالَ ابْنُ عُمَرَ قَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «هَلْ بَلَّغْتُ». ثَلاَثًا.

حَدَّثَنَا مُسَدَّدٌ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَوَانَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي بِشْرٍ، عَنْ يُوسُفَ بْنِ مَاهَكَ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو، قَالَ تَخَلَّفَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم فِي سَفَرٍ سَافَرْنَاهُ فَأَدْرَكَنَا وَقَدْ أَرْهَقْنَا الصَّلاَةَ صَلاَةَ الْعَصْرِ وَنَحْنُ نَتَوَضَّأُ، فَجَعَلْنَا نَمْسَحُ عَلَى أَرْجُلِنَا، فَنَادَى بِأَعْلَى صَوْتِهِ ‏ ‏‏.‏ مَرَّتَيْنِ أَوْ ثَلاَثًا‏.‏
"‏ وَيْلٌ لِلأَعْقَابِ مِنَ النَّارِ ‏"
`Abdullah bin `Amr:

Once Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) remained behind us in a journey. He joined us while we were performing ablution for the `Asr prayer which was over-due. We were just passing wet hands over our feet (not washing them properly) so the Prophet (ﷺ) addressed us in a loud voice and said twice or thrice, "Save your heels from the fire."
