Chapter 7

To give witness concerning lineage, foster suckling relations and dead persons

باب الشَّهَادَةِ عَلَى الأَنْسَابِ وَالرَّضَاعِ الْمُسْتَفِيضِ وَالْمَوْتِ الْقَدِيمِ

The Prophet ﷺ said, "I and Abu Salama were suckled by Thuwaiba." The necessity of being sure of the witness in such cases.
وَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «أَرْضَعَتْنِي وَأَبَا سَلَمَةَ ثُوَيْبَةُ». وَالتَّثَبُّتِ فِيهِ.

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ كَثِيرٍ، أَخْبَرَنَا سُفْيَانُ، عَنْ أَشْعَثَ بْنِ أَبِي الشَّعْثَاءِ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ مَسْرُوقٍ، أَنَّ عَائِشَةَ ـ رضى الله عنها ـ قَالَتْ دَخَلَ عَلَىَّ النَّبِيُّ صلى الله عليه وسلم وَعِنْدِي رَجُلٌ، قَالَ ‏"‏ يَا عَائِشَةُ مَنْ هَذَا ‏"‏‏.‏ قُلْتُ أَخِي مِنَ الرَّضَاعَةِ‏.‏ قَالَ ‏"‏ يَا عَائِشَةُ، انْظُرْنَ مَنْ إِخْوَانُكُنَّ، فَإِنَّمَا الرَّضَاعَةُ مِنَ الْمَجَاعَةِ ‏"‏‏.‏ تَابَعَهُ ابْنُ مَهْدِيٍّ عَنْ سُفْيَانَ‏.‏
Aisha:

Once the Prophet (ﷺ) came to me while a man was in my house. He said, "O `Aisha! Who is this (man)?" I replied, "My foster brothers" He said, "O `Aisha! Be sure about your foster brothers, as fostership is only valid if it takes place in the suckling period (before two years of age).
