Concerning moderation in ablution and avoiding extravagance

باب مَا جَاءَ فِي الْقَصْدِ فِي الْوَضُوءِ وَكَرَاهِيَةِ التَّعَدِّي فِيهِ

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُصَفَّى الْحِمْصِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا بَقِيَّةُ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْفَضْلِ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ سَالِمٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ، قَالَ رَأَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ـ صلى الله عليه وسلم ـ رَجُلاً يَتَوَضَّأُ فَقَالَ ‏ ‏ ‏.‏
"‏ لاَ تُسْرِفْ لاَ تُسْرِفْ ‏"
It is narrated that Ibn 'Umar said:

"The Messenger of Allah saw a man performing ablution, and he said: 'Do not be extravagant, do not be extravagant (in using water).'" (Maudu')
